On the crest of a wave (A1)
Based on the current market forecast and the orders for aircraft from Middle East and Indian operators, how are maintenance providers and operators coping with this remarkable growth. This session goes behind the scenes with some of the regions key players to take a look at their operations and their growth strategy - how are they addressing the personnel issues, their views on keeping work in-house Vs outsourcing and their approach to continuous improvement. What have they done to stay ahead and how will they continue to ramp up to meet the demand.
  • Speaker, Abu Dhabi Aircraft Technologies
The war for talent (A2)
With fierce competition for mechanics and engineers within the industry itself and also from other industries, how can the MRO industry attract and retain the staff they have? With employment from other markets drying up, how can the industry in the Middle East attract GCC Nationals in the first place especially against the competition from the various Governments? What is the position in India? Is the industry recruiting over-qualified staff who will quickly want to move on? How can a balance be achieved in terms of recruiting at the right level with an attractive proposition that will see the industry with an adequate supply to support future needs.
  • Eng. Abd El Aziz Fadel, Maintenance & Technical Affairs Chairman, Egyptair M&E Company
3:00 pm – 4:00 pm Breakouts:
Embracing LEAN (B1)
Continuous improvement is integral to every organisation that wants to reduce costs through the efficiency of its processes. But how serious is the Middle East and India about implementing LEAN and other CI initiatives. What does a LEAN MRO look like? We talk to an industry expert for his opinion of what has been done in the region to date and what more has yet to be done. We then ask two regional players to speak of their experience.
  • Moderator: Terry Tooley, Solution Architect Director Maintenance, Oracle Corp.
  • Robert Mionis, CEO, Manufacturing and Engineering divisions, Dubai Aerospace Enterprises
  • Mark Radley, Partner & Director, LMR
  • Chris Lampiris, Senior Associate, Lean Six Sigma, Oliver Wyman
The modern maintenance toolbox (B2)
With the introduction of aircraft such as the A380 and the B787, the mechanics toolkit is changing forever. A new MRO landscape is emerging as we look at the methodologies required to support the materials, equipment and technologies employed on these aircraft. We ask Airbus and Boeing for their view on how the face of maintenance is being transformed and where operators and maintenance providers need to focus to ensure they have the skills in place to support these aircraft and indeed, the other aircraft in the future portfolios.

January 22
Day Two
10:00 am – 10:45 am Welcome /Airline Keynote
  • Ed Hazelwood, Editor-In-Chief Conferences, AVIATION WEEK
10:45 am – 11:30 am General panel session
What goes up must come down
Is there a danger of over-investment in the Middle East? What should happen if and when there is a market downturn? How do we get the balance right to ensure there is enough capability and supply to support the growth without swamping the region? In a high inflation environment, what is best outsourced from other areas? But to ensure efficiency and that services are available when required, what additional MRO capability is required in the Middle East?
  • Moderator: Mary Mannion, Editorial Director, MRO Middle East 2009
  • Iain Lachlin, Divisional SVP, Emirate Engineering
11:30 am – 12:30 pm General panel session
PMA parts - the debate continues
The pros and cons of using PMA parts is an old debate but nonetheless an important one. Widening that debate, the panel would like to discuss the role of the OEMS in aligning themselves with the MRO organisations to provide parts solutions that deliver more value for money. Reducing cost shouldn't necessarily have to mean using the cheapest part. However, using an alternate, cheaper part shouldn't necessarily mean compromising on quality. What is the current position in terms of manufacturing of parts and where do the OEMs stand?
  • Moderator: Overhaul & Maintenance Magazine
  • Kate Schaefer, Senior VP Sales, HEICO
12:30 pm – 1:00 pm Closing speaker
  • Moderator: Ed Hazelwood, Editor-In-Chief Conferences, AVIATION WEEK
  • Andrew Cowen, CEO, Sama
1:00 pm Conference concludes
